Job Duties
1. Transport finished goods and raw materials over land to and from manufacturing plants or retail and distribution centers
2. Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance
3. Plan routes and meet delivery schedules
4. Document and log work/rest periods and kilometres spent driving and retain fuel/toll receipts
5. Input “macros” into our automated system for each stage of the loading and unloading process
6. Comply with truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures
7. Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions
8. Collect and verify delivery instructions
9. Report defects, accidents or violations
10. Run truck and tractor trailer unit to deliver building products to customer within distribution territory.
11. Load, handle and transport materials and heavy cargo safely.
12. Investigate safety loads to correct materials loaded on trailer.
13. Deliver material to destinations, unload materials and complete paperwork.
14. Direct customer queries to location management.
15. Manage vehicle in safe operating condition required by DOT.
16. Manage logs and records as per DOT regulations.
17. Load and unload vehicles or building loads and secure for safe transportation.
18. Deliver load with good attention to customer service and safety.
19. Transport products to company business and represent CMC professionally.
20. Run tractor trailer combination and commercial vehicles to transport and deliver equipment.
21. Check vehicles and troubleshoot and maintain vehicles.
22. Operate Powered Industrial Trucks to load and unload delivery vehicle.
23. Run ratchet straps and chains and binders to secure load to trailer.
24. Adhere to laws on commercial vehicle operation as per Federal, State and local authorities.
Education Requirement
1. Completion of secondary school is usually required.
2. On-the-job-training is provided.
3. Completion of an accredited driver training course of up to three months duration, through a vocational school or community college, may be required.
4. A Class 3 or D licence is required to drive straight-body trucks.
5. A Class 1 or A licence is required to drive long combination vehicles.
6. Air brake endorsement (Z) is required for drivers who operate vehicles equipped with air brakes.
7. Transportation of dangerous goods (TDG) certification is required for drivers who transport hazardous products or dangerous goods.
8. Additional licensing endorsement or certification may be required to drive articulated trucks.
