Job Duties
1. Consult with clients to determine requirements for designs
2. Research the various ways a particular product might be used, and who will use it
3. Sketch ideas or create renderings, which are images on paper or on a computer that provide a visual of design ideas
4. Use computer software to develop virtual models of different designs
5. Create physical prototypes of their designs
6. Examine materials and manufacturing requirements to determine production costs
7. Work with other specialists, such as mechanical engineers and manufacturers, to evaluate whether their design concepts will fill needs at a reasonable cost
8. Evaluate product safety, appearance, and function to determine if a design is practical
9. Present designs and demonstrate prototypes to clients for approval
10. Continuously coming up with new product designs
11. Developing and iterating designs through sketches, prototypes, renderings and communicating with manufacturers
12. Regularly presenting design work to various decision-makers
13. Developing products from concept to factory production while keeping within budgets and timelines
14. Identifying suitable manufacturing partners, sourcing components, and negotiating costs
15. Advocating for new products through the entire design and production process from early-stage concept to creation of samples and mass production
16. Collaborating with marketing teams during on-site photo shoots, preparing for photo shoots and ensuring execution of all key product shots
Education Requirement
1. A university degree in industrial design, architecture, engineering or a college diploma in industrial design is required.
2. Creative ability, as demonstrated by a portfolio of work, is required.
