Job Duties
1. Assembling, installing, repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining electronic components and systems.
2. Sourcing or fabricating replacement parts for electronic systems.
3. Ensuring all power and manual tools are operated in accordance with health and safety regulations.
4. Liaising with Supervisors and clients to discuss work schedules and time and material cost estimates.
5. Providing training and supervision for new technicians and apprentices.
6. Carrying out scheduled preventative maintenance and servicing equipment.
7. Performing equipment demonstrations and drawing up training manuals wherever required.
8. Interpreting drawings, training manuals, and instructions in order to perform duties.
9. Following written, verbal, and telephonic instructions.
10. Attending regular training workshops and reporting to the Supervisor.
11. Set up electronic systems and devices
12. Assemble and connect system components (e.g. cables)
13. Build prototype models based on technical guidelines
14. Monitor and report on project progress
15. Estimate damage and calculate the cost of materials
16. Test system functionality and analyze data
17. Repair malfunctions in circuitry and other system structures
18. Read and comprehend complex manuals and diagrams
19. Update reports and maintain inventory
20. Collaborate with engineers and other professionals on technical tasks
21. Use various tools to build and repair systems (e.g. grinders)
Education Requirement
1. Completion of a two- to three-year college program in electronics or completion of a four-year apprenticeship program in electronic servicing and repair or completion of high school or college courses in electronics and on-the-job training is required.
2. Trade certification for electronics technicians (consumer products) is available, but voluntary, in Ontario, British Columbia and the Yukon.
